Crazy 8 Sale On Now!

In preparation to purchase our “forever home”, I have been looking for every extra way to save money.  Thankfully, my contract with my cable provider is finally up and letting it go feels soooo good!

Make a list

Chances are, you don’t watch more than half of the channels you’re currently paying for.  So the first step is to make a list of the channels and shows you watch on a regular basis.  Do you have small children that watch certain shows?  Are you hooked on Fixer Upper and Grey’s Anatomy like me?  Guess what?  You don’t need cable to watch them!

What I discovered is an amazing little thing that allows you to watch Live T.V and the current season of your favorite show on demand! The secret is Hulu Live.  After you have made your list head on over to Hulu scroll down to “Hulu with Live TV”, click on “learn more” and then scroll down to “view all channels in your area”.  Once you have clicked on this, you can type in your zip code to see what channels are available in your location.

Most likely, everything won’t be available for you to watch live every time.  Don’t worry though, the new episode of your favorite show will be ready for you to stream the next day!

Sports

NFL football is a must have in our house.  That has never been up for negotiation, so I knew that in order to get my husband on board I had to come up with a way for him to continue to watch football.  Luckily, they are quite a few options.

  1. Hulu with Live TV is able to stream games that come on Fox in our area.  So all of our team’s games that come on that Network can be checked off.
  2. Depending on your area, you might also be able to stream CBS live through Hulu but unfortunately for us, we can only get CBS on demand.  Because our team plays on this Network pretty frequently we had to subscribe to CBS All Access.  This doesn’t concern me too much because it is only $5.99 a month!
  3. If you are a prime member, you automatically have access to all the Thursday night football games!  How awesome is that?  All you need is a way to stream it.  (We use the Amazon Fire Stick.)
  4. If you are in an area that is relatively close to a T.V tower, you can also use an Outdoor HDTV Antenna.  This will allow you to get all of your local channels and watch those Sunday games for FREE!!!!  They also make some great Indoor HD Antennas so you don’t have to mount anything to your roof.

Ways to Stream

Once you cut the cord, you are going to have to have a way to stream the shows you want to watch.  Luckily, these days there are so many different options to do that and chances are you might already have one!

  1. Smart T.V.
  2. Fire Stick
  3. Fire T.V.
  4. Roku Stick
  5. Playstation 4
  6. XBox 1 and 360
  7. Smart blu-ray player

I may be missing a couple but these are the main 7 and most popular!

Wifi

Unless you are planning on just having a T.V Antenna for select local channels, you’re going to continue to have to have an internet provider.  Getting a good internet plan is HUGE for streaming shows and movies.  Make sure you choose one that has a very high download and upload speed!  In another effort to save money, you can also buy your own cable modem and router.  This will save you the roughly, $10 a month they charge you to rent one.  If you buy your own, make sure it will support as many different devices you will be using in your household and that your internet provider will allow you to use it.

DVR

Many of us have become very dependant on our DVR.  Who has time to wait up until 10 p.m. to watch a show full of commercials?  Luckily, Hulu Live comes with 50 hours of recordable space and you can pay to upgrade to 200 hours.  Another thing to check off the list!

HBO and Showtime

Watch Game of Thrones or Shameless?  No worries, Hulu allows you to upgrade whenever you want.  Right now, HBO is an additional $14.99 and Showtime is $8.99.  If you are a prime member, you can also upgrade to these services with Prime Video.

Netflix

Even if you aren’t a cord cutter, you probably already have Netflix.  I mean, who hasn’t binged watched at least one show like Breaking Bad on this awesome streaming platform?!  Once you cut the cord, you are still going to want to hold onto this beloved service to get the abundance of movies, and original shows it offers!

Wrap it up

I know, there is so much information and things to think about it is overwhelming!  But once you make the switch, you will be so glad you did!  Just think about the space you will regain on your T.V stand, and the money you can put back in your wallet!  And there are even more options out there than what I mentioned, these are just the ones I found would work best for me.  It’s time to get out there and save some money!
