Wellness with Essential Oils

Used incorporation with a healthy lifestyle and diet, essential oils can do all sorts of good for your body and help with underlying conditions on a cellular level.  Before diving in, it’s important to know the basics and safe ways to use them.

The basics and allergies

To get started with essential oils there are three that you need to have on hand no matter what!  Lavender, lemon, and peppermint. This trio will always act as your “staple” and these three were a total game changer for my kids.

Lucy used to cough until she got sick every night because of all of the drainage and discomfort from allergies. I started diffusing lavender, lemon, and peppermint in her room every night and she never got sick again!!! There was one evening that we were late getting home so I thought skipping her diffuser would be okay, but I was SO wrong! It’s been almost two years since I started using these three things and they have helped us in so many ways. If you that suffer from allergies, you need to check these out. Use them in a diffuser, in a roll- on or you can also add them to water and drink them. I drink a couple drops of lemon in my water every day and not only does it taste great, it also boosts my immune system, aids in digestion and works as a natural cleanse.  (By the way, my kids bring home all sorts of lovely viruses from school this winter and I didn’t get any of them!) The TriEase capsules are what I use to help battle my allergies.  They are great because they are a combination of lemon, lavender, and peppermint already in capsule form for you!  They help with clear breathing and respiratory function and protect you from all those seasonal allergens!

essential oilsQuality control

Ok, so you invested in lemon, lavender, and peppermint and now you’re hooked… I just need to let you know before you go shopping around, in the world of Essential Oils cheaper is NOT better!

I CAN NOT stress this enough!!! Trust me, I am as frugal as it gets but one thing that is so important not to buy the cheap, generic version of, is essential oils! When they are created in a laboratory, they could do more harm than good!!! When using essential oils you MUST make sure they are CPTG (certified pure therapeutic grade)! You will NOT get the same benefits from ones that are not CPTG and they are NOT safe to ingest!

This definition of CPTG is sourced from Doterra’s website.

CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade — An Innovative Standard
doTERRA CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils represent the safest and most beneficial oils available in the world today. For an oil to be CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade the oil must be:
  • Pure and natural, with aromatic compounds carefully extracted from plants
  • Free from fillers or artificial ingredients; no dilution of active qualities
  • Free of contaminants, pesticides, or chemical residues
  • Rigorously tested for standards of chemical composition
  • Cross tested using mass spectrometry and gas chromatography to ensure exact purity and composition potency
  • Sourced by a global network of leading essential oil chemists and growers to ensure correct species, growth in ideal environments, and that raw plant materials were carefully harvested at the right time

If your essential oils at home do not say that they are CPTG than they could be full of contaminants, pesticides, and chemical residues!  This is so important to remember!

Touch blends

On to one of my many essential oil addictions, Touch blends!

I so wish that I knew about the Touch blends when my kids were babies!  Ever have one of those nights where you just can’t get that little babe comfortable?!  Baby gas is NO joke!  But I just may have something that can help!  The DigestZen roll-on is safe to use on baby’s tummy!  All we had to use were those homeopathic gas drops and hours spent being bounced on Daddy’s knee!

Now that our babes are bigger, we use the Melaleuca roll-on for allergies, bug bites, and scraped knees! Roll wherever some relief and healing are needed and bottoms of feet for dealing with little one’s allergies! I personally LOVE the Breathe roll-on! Whenever my nose is stuffy or I feel a sinus headache coming on, I roll this on my wrists and inhale, and also on my chest. Also, instead of using the Digestzen roll-on for gassy babies, my husband and I use the Digestzen tablets to aid in digestion and help avoid bloated bellies after eating!

Mood boosting

I know, I’ve already told you about peppermint for helping with allergies but there is so much more to it!  Gosh, we use it for fevers (on the bottoms of feet), stinky breath (in water or beadlet), headache (back of neck), nausea (rubbed on belly), indigestion (in water) and also has a refreshing little mood booster!  When combined in a diffuser with Citrus Bliss you are guaranteed to feel ready to take on the day! Citrus Bliss can also be used (like lemon) for cleaning surfaces.

All natural cleaner recipe:  15 drops of Citrus Bliss + 16 oz spray bottle of water
